Leading to the Level 5 Coaching Professional Apprenticeship (Schools & Colleges) qualification, this practical, evidence-based qualification is beneficial for those who want to develop their skills to actively listen, provide feedback and use coaching and mentoring to advance performance. The qualification is mapped to the Institute of Leadership & Management Level 5 Certificate in Effective Coaching and Mentoring, and as a result of undertaking the apprenticeship, an additional qualification will also be achieved.
The content is designed to strengthen your understanding of how the organisational context can affect both coaching and mentoring. It allows for the planning, delivery and review of those you will coach and mentor.
The qualification acts to both reward and recognise you for undertaking this important role within your school/ college, in supporting those new to teaching, or undertaking teacher training.
Entry Requirements
Prior experience in teaching or in schools is not a prerequisite of acceptance onto the qualification.
GCSE
Have achieved a standard equivalent to a Grade-4 (C grade) GCSE in English and Mathematics.
Coaching
The applicant must have the opportunity to be engaged in a coaching relationship and display the behavioural attributes required of a coach, such as trust and integrity.
Employer
As part of the apprenticeship, you will be supported by your employer to undertake ‘off the job’ activities to successfully progress with the qualification. This time permits you to study, complete tasks and meet with your University Tutors to support you in completing the required assessments.

Upon completion of this qualification you will have:

Units Covered
The qualification is for 14 months, plus the EPA. Each of the three units are delivered and assessed before undertaking the next unit. This allows you to progressively achieve and understand your success as you continue.
As part of the programme you will receive regular coaching sessions and be observed when undertaking a mentoring/coaching session. In addition, you are required to undertake a minimum of 20 hours formal coaching or mentoring with a number of appropriate individuals.
How you’ll be taught
This unique delivery is online with face-to-face meetings with your employer and the University Tutor to discuss progress. Observations of coaching practice take place in the work location. The qualification functions through a sophisticated online virtual learning platform, AULA, where you access valuable qualification materials and become an interactive participant through the community learning areas.
There will be group and individual online delivery through Microsoft Teams, where you will cement your learning and be able to undertake discussions with the unit leaders.
Your University Tutor will work closely with you throughout the qualification. Individual and small group seminars provide opportunities to share experiences and to aid in the completion of assessments and development of your evidence portfolio, required for the End Point Assessment.
Regular meetings between you, your line manager and University Tutor will also take place to discuss your progress and further support your development.

How you’ll be assessed
As part of the apprenticeship, there is an obligation to undertake study. In order to undertake this successfully, you will be required to work 20% off the job. These activities can easily fit around work, and further information on how this works will be discussed on application and enquiry.
